Landslides, floods possible in Ilocos, Central Luzon on Tuesday

MANILA, Philippines – The Ilocos region and Central Luzon should prepare for flashfloods and landslides on Tuesday, August 5, as the Southwest Monsoon, enhanced by Typhoon Jose, is expected to bring heavy rains to these regions.

In their August 4, 5 pm bulletin, state weather bureau PAGASA said it spotted Typhoon Jose 840 kilometers east southeast of Aparri, Cagayan at 4 pm.

The weakened typhoon packs wind speeds of up to 165 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center with gustiness of up to 200 kph.

The typhoon is expected to enhance the monsoon rains in Ilocos and Central Luzon.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon can expect more rains on Tuesday.

Visayas and Mindanao will have fairer weather. The entire Visayas region and Caraga in Mindanao will experience light to moderate rains. The rest of Mindanao will have isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Across the archipelago, moderate to strong winds will prevail making coastal waters everywhere moderate to rough.
