MANILA, Philippines – More areas have been placed under storm signal number 3 as Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) maintains its course toward the Samar provinces on Saturday, December 6.
Ruby, located 180 kilometers east northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar, or at 260 km east of Catarman, Northern Samar,  as of 10 am Saturday, has also weakened slightly.

It currently has maximum sustained winds of 185 km/hour near the center and gusts of up to 220 km/h, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.
As of 10 am Saturday, Ruby was again downgraded from a super typhoon to a typhoon by the US Joint Typhoon Warning Center. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) labeled the typhoon as a violent storm.
The typhoon is also expected to bring heavy to intense rainfall within its 600-km diameter, the bureau said.
PAGASA is now expecting landfall early Sunday, December 7, over the Eastern Samar-Northern Samar area, and will be “associated with strong winds, storm surge (up to 4.5 meters) and heavy-intense rainfall.”
