MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Chedeng (Maysak) accelerated slightly late Saturday morning, April 4, as the typhoon moves closer to the Isabela-Aurora area, the state weather bureau said in its latest bulletin.

In its 11 am weather bulletin, PAGASA said 10 provinces are now under public storm warning Signal Number 2.

Chedeng, last located 450 east southeast of Casiguran, Aurora, as of 10 am Saturday, is moving west northwest at 22 kilometers per hour (km/h).

It has maintained its intensity, with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 160 km/h. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected within the 150 km radius of the typhoon.

  • Some nipa and cogon houses maybe partially unroofed
  • Sea travel of small sea crafts and fishing boats will be risky

Chedeng will hit land over the coast of Southern Isabela by Sunday morning, April 5.

It will exit the landmass via Ilocos Sur by Sunday afternoon, and will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday morning, April 6. 

Authorities have warned tourists in affected areas like Baler in Aurora to reconsider plans ahead of Chedeng’s landfall.

The local government of Baler will implement forced evacuations that will affect about 200 families living 3 meters away from Baler Bay. 

“Storm surges and sea surface waves of up to 2 meters are possible over the eastern coast of Aurora, Quezon and Isabela. Fisherfolks are advised not to venture out over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon and eastern seaboard of Bicol Region and of Visayas,” the bureau said in its 11 am Chedeng bulletin.
