The MMDA conducts rescue operations as parts of Metro Manila remain flooded

MANILA, Philippines – The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is conducting rescue operations as areas in the capital remain flooded.

In an interview with radio DZMM, MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the following areas were flooded as of 9:40 am Tuesday: Talayan, Quezon City; Araneta, E. Rodriguez in Quezon City; Roxas Boulevard in Manila, and parts of San Juan. He said a creek near Centris along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City also overflowed.

The MMDA chief said those in need of rescue can call the agency’s hotline: 882-0925.

Tolentino called on local government units to coordinate with the agency to save time and resources.

“There are local government units that are able to do their own rescue operations: Marikina, Muntinlupa. We are sending trucks for the use of local governments but they should coordinate with us so that efforts will not be redundant because time is of the essence here,” Tolentino said in Filipino.

Tolentino also called on volunteer groups, especially those trained by the MMDA, to help in the rescue operations by heading to the MMDA headquarters along Edsa Guadalupe.

“Those who are fit and whose families are safe, if you can help us, we trained thousands, especially fire brigades, please. Just go here to we can synchronize our efforts.” – Rappler.com
