11 areas in Luzon under state of calamity

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Due to heavy flooding brought about by non-stop rain, local goverment officials in various parts of Luzon have placed on Tuesday, August 7, the following areas under state of calamity:

NCR

• Malabon City
• Valenzuela City

Region III

• Bataan
• Masantol, Pampanga
• Malolos City, Bulacan
• Meycauayan, Bulacan
• Obando, Bulacan
• Zambales

Region IV-A

• Cainta, Rizal
• San Mateo, Rizal
• Laguna

The Department of Social Welfare and Development, together with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, earlier reported that nearly 200,000 families (or close to a million individuals) have been affected by flooding and landslides in 32 provinces in the country.

Incessant rain has been pounding the capital and large parts of Luzon since Monday, August 6.
