Justice Priscilla Baltazar-Padilla was 63 years old. She was active in the Supreme Court for only a month.

Retired Supreme Court associate justice Priscilla Baltazar-Padilla died on Friday, August 27, at the age of 63.

“The Judiciary mourns the passing of its 188th Associate Justice, Hon. Priscilla J. Baltazar-Padilla,” the Supreme Court said in a statement on Saturday, August 28.

Padilla was active in the Supreme Court for only a month. She was appointed in July 2020, and was already on leave by the end of August that year. Padilla’s early retirement, due to physical disability, was approved by the en banc in November 2020.

Padilla served the judiciary for more than two decades, working her way up from a Metropolitan Trial Court (MeTC) judge starting in 1996, to the Court of Appeals (CA) where she served before her appointment to the Supreme Court in 2020.

The Supreme Court bench currently has two open spots, both to be filled up President Rodrigo Duterte. The President already has the short lists for both vacancies.
