PAMPANGA, Philippines – Two of 4 suspects in an alleged robbery of a gasoline station in Bacolor town here were killed after they engaged in a shootout with the police on Thursday, June 13.
In a statement to the media, Central Luzon (Police Regional Office PRO3) director Brigadier General Joel Napoleon Coronel identified the slain suspects as Ariel Say-Ao Moguil, resident of Mabalite Tadian in Mountain Province; and Dexter Tinguey of Barangay San Carlos, Baguio City.
Lieutenant Colonel Fe Grenas, PRO3 public information officer, said before the shootout, 2 cashiers of the Shell gasoline station in Barangay Sta. Inez personally reported to the Bacolor Municipal Police that they were robbed at gunpoint by 4 men – two on board a blue Toyota Hi-lux pick-up truck with plate No. XTF628, and the other two riding a motorcycle – before midnight on Wednesday, June 12.
The cashiers told the police that the suspects took P5,000 in cash and an Oppo mobile phone.
Bacolor police immediately alerted all police units and advised them to conduct a dragnet operation against the suspects.
Operatives of the Pampanga Special Weapons and Tactics, 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company and members of the Bacolor police were able to intercept the pick-up truck as it was passing the Pasig-Potrero Dike Access Road in Barangay Cabetican around 12:35 am on Thursday.
Instead of surrendering, Moguil and Tinguey allegedly opened fire at the police team.
After the shooting, police recovered the following inside the slain suspects' vehicle: a caliber .45 pistol loaded with 5 live bullets and several spent shells; a caliber .22 revolver loaded with 2 live bullets and 3 spent shells; 4 pieces heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu; P2,420 cash; and the stolen Oppo mobile phone.
Coronel lauded the Pampanga police for their immediate action against the reported armed robbery.
“Due to quick police reporting, we were able to locate these lawless elements promptly and the necessary police action was conducted,” he said. – Rappler.com
