Twelve members of the armed Talusan group were killed in a firefight with the police’s Special Action Force (SAF) in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao Saturday morning, January 23.
Police Regional Office–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) told Rappler that the shootout happened when former Barangay Chair Datu Pendatun Talusan resisted the service of his warrants of arrests for the crimes of carnapping, robbery with homicide, and double frustrated murder.
According to PRO-BAR, the armed group was one of the most wanted groups in Sultan Kudarat.
While no civilians were harmed, the encounter that started at 3 am also killed Police Staff Sergeant Elenel Pido, one of the government troops. Four others were injured and were immediately brought to the hospital.
Recovered weapons in the crime scene included 5 M16, 1 M14, an 1Pal, an improvised Barreta, 1 Cal 22, and 2 Cal 45 pistols.
Investigation revealed that Talusan is involved in other illegal activities such as shooting and illegal trade, carnapping, robbery, and gun-for-hire activities.
PRO-BAR is now on an alert status after the incident. – Rappler.com
