#MarioPH: 25 evacuation centers in affected areas

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has set up 25 evacuation centers in areas battered by Tropical Storm Mario (international code: Fung-Wong), most of them in Central Visayas, Metro Manila, and the province of Rizal south of the capital region.

As of 10 am Friday, September 19, the agency has recorded 94,747 families or 436,539 persons affected by the typhoon.

Taking shelter in the evacuation centers are 1,276 families or 6,406 persons – or 1 in 100. These are:

 

In a statement, then DSWS said it will open more evacuation centers, based on the needs reported by local government units. Social welfare and development teams are in coordination with LGUs to identify other needed services.

The field offices of the department have a total of P35 million on standby for the purchase of emergency relief supplies. They have prepared 91,531 family packs for distribution to affected families, in coordination with the LGUs.
