Graduates of the University of the Philippines-Manila dominated the top 10 list of physician board exam passers released on Thursday, November 26.
Jomel Garcia Lapides, a graduate of UP-Manila, topped the Physician Licensure Exam administered by the government in November 2020. He garnered a rating of 88.67%.
In July 2011, Lapides also topped Nurse Licensure Exam.
There were actually 20 medical graduates who garnered the 10 highest scores in the November board exam, 8 of them from UP-Manila.
Among them was Tiffany Grace Uy, who graduated as class valedictorian of UP Manila College of Medicine. In 2015, Uy made it to news when she graduated summa cum laude from UP Diliman with a nearly perfect general weighted average of 1.004.
The University of Santo Tomas had the second highest number of top-notchers with 4, followed by the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health with 3, and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila with 2.
The University of Saint La Salle, the Lyceum Northwestern University-Dagupan City, and the Davao Medical School Foundation had one graduate each among the top-notchers.
A total of 3,538 passed the November 2020 licensure exam for physicians.
