The former archbishop of Capiz, Cardinal Jose Fuerte Advincula, is set to be installed as the 33rd Manila archbishop on Thursday, June 24.

Advincula, 69, is succeeding Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who is now prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples at the Vatican.

Advincula’s installation takes place at the Manila Cathedral, the seat of the Manila archbishop, in the presence of church officials and the mayors of the 5 cities within the archdiocese: Manila, Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasay, and San Juan.

The ceremonies begin at 8 am on Thursday at the Postigo Gate of the historic walled city of Intramuros. The Postigo Gate used to be the entrance of Manila archbishops and governors-general during the Spanish occupation of the Philippines.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is expected to welcome Advincula at the Postigo Gate, after which he and the other mayors will hold a civic ceremony for Advincula at the Ayuntamiento.

At 9 am, the installation is set to be held at the Manila Cathedral during a Holy Mass.
