Robredo’s promise: A Bicolana president won’t neglect Bicol

“Sa akin po, ang eleksyon na ‘to, pagkakataon din para sa ating mga Bicolano. Mahabang panahon, parang nakakalimutan ang Bicol region, ‘di ba? Parati natin ‘yang sinasabi: Bakit parang lagi kaming nakakalimutan?” Leni Robredo told a crowd in Tigaon, Camarines Sur on the first day of the campaign period for national elective posts.

(That’s why for me, this elections is also a chance for us Bicolanos. We’ve been saying for a long time that it seems the Bicol region is being forgotten, right? We always say that: Why are we always forgotten?)

“‘Pag nagkataon pong binigyan tayo ng pagkakataong manilbihan, first time na magkakaroon ng presidenteng Bicolana. ‘Pag Bicolana ang presidente, imposible naman yatang makakalimutan ang Bicol,” added Robredo, eliciting cheers from the crowd.

(If I am given the chance to serve, this will be the first time for us to have a Bicolana president. If the president is a Bicolana, then it would be impossible for Bicol to be forgotten this time.)

Ilocano group endorses Robredo: ‘We choose a president whose courage inspires us’

John Michael Mugas

A volunteer-led group from Ilocos Norte has chosen to back the presidential bid of Leni Robredo instead of fellow Ilocano Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr, saying, “We choose a president who leads by example and empowers us to be steadfast in the face of unrelenting abuse and mockery.”

The Ilocos Norte for Leni & Kiko Volunteers (INLoVE) said in a statement on Tuesday that they are supporting a presidential candidate “whose courage inspires us.”

INLoVE noted how Robredo has continued to “overdeliver” even in the most difficult times. “We choose leaders who have proven over and over again that, despite whatever is thrown at them – typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or the childish whims of a jealous underperforming superior, they exceed expectations and do better,” the group said.

INLoVE has been leading the opposition voice in Ilocos Norte against a potential Marcos comeback in Malacañang. Despite being “few” in number, they said that they are a “huge crack in the so-called Solid North. And if need be, we will keep that crack open for the light to come pouring in.”

“To speak openly against these evils in our own home province is deemed treason,” the group said, but they decided to break their silence as they have seen so much “betrayal, treachery, and infighting among the leaders of our province.” Both Ilocos Norte and the capital city of Laoag are led by Marcos scions.
