WATCH: Man’s birthday turns into tragedy as Typhoon Rolly hits Batangas
Villamor Madera didn't think he would wake up homeless on his birthday after Typhoon Rolly (Goni) hit Batangas province

BATANGAS, Philippines – Villamor Madera turned 62 years old on November 2. But instead of a birthday present, he received bad news: the house where he had lived in for 40 years was flattened by Typhoon Rolly (Goni).

In San Isidro Village, Batangas City, the water from the river beside his house rose quickly because of the intense rain, causing massive floods. Coupled with heavy winds, his house made of light materials was no match for the typhoon’s strength.

Rolly is deemed the strongest typhoon, so far, in the world this year. It was a super typhoon at its peak before it hit Batangas. State weather bureau PAGASA warned Filipinos to prepare for its wrath. And wrath it was for some residents in Batangas City, as chest-deep floods in several areas prompted evacuation.
