Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo will hold on Friday, June 11, his first Meet the Press event since his appointment in April.
Chief justices rarely speak to the press, although the rarity varies per top magistrate, with retired chief justice Diosdado Peralta holding three sessions in his year and a half tenure.
Gesmundo will focus on “a technology-driven judiciary” in his speech.
Gesmundo inherits a judiciary coping with the limits of the pandemic, and courts that are pressured to take a stronger stance amid escalating killings and human rights abuses in the Duterte administration.
The petitions challenging the feared anti-terror law are still pending, and so are the petitions seeking to void Duterte’s war on drugs.
