Residents near the Marikina River return to 6 evacuation centers

Water levels at the Sto Niño Station were at 20.04m as of 3:30am.

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Residents of low lying areas along the Marikina River were ordered to evacuate at 3 a.m. on Thursday, August 9.

The warning siren was sounded, signaling the forced evacuation of residents in the area.

“Please wake up now and move away from the low lying areas along Marikina River, including Tumana and Provident [Village],” said Project NOAH head Mahar Lagmay in his twitter account @nababaha.

Lagmay said the water level at Upper Marikina Watershed in Montalban, Rizal was already as high as 28.14 meters. It is the highest it has reached since Monday, he said.

Water level at the Sto. Niño station also reached 19.68 meters as of 3 a.m. Only 40 minutes later, the water level is already at 20.04 meters.

Lagmay warned that water levels in the Marikina River was expected to rise very fast within the next two hours.

Malacañang also assisted in disseminating the information through social media.

“Please take the necessary precautions including evacuating to higher ground or to evacuation centers following protocol observed in Marikina,” said presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.

From Concepcion: 

  • H. Bautista Elementary School
  • Concepcion Integrated School 

From Tumana: 

  • Tumana Elementary School
  • Parang Elementary School

From Malanday: 

  • Parang Elementary School
  • Malanday Elementary School
