
MANILA, Philippines – Tropical depression Helen continues to move closer to northern Luzon, the state weather bureau Pagasa said in its 24-hour weather forecast on Monday, August 13.
Helen was last spotted 630 kilometers east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora, with maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour near the center.
The tropical depression is moving west northwest at 9 km/h, the bureau said.
There are no public storm warning signals raised in any area of the country yet, the bureau said.
Heavy to intense rainfall (10-20 millimeters per hour) is expected within the 350 km diameter of the tropical depression, the bureau’s 5 pm bulletin said.
It is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rain over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Helen is forecast to be 590 km east northeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan by Monday evening (August 13); 420 km east northeast of Aparri, Cagayan by Tuesday; and 220 km northeast of Basco, Batanes by Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Luzon and Visayas will have mostly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered rain or thunderstorms, becoming cloudy with widespread rain over the east, which could trigger flashfloods and landslides.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain or thunderstorms.
Winds over Luzon will be moderate to strong coming from the southwest, with coastal waters moderate to rough. The rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds from the southwest.
Metro Manila will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain or thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between 24-31 degrees Celsius, the bureau said.
