Metro sizzles at 37.5 degrees, hottest this year

MANILA, Philippines – The heat in Metro Manila reached 37.5°C on Saturday afternoon, April 16, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

This makes it the hottest temperature in Metro Manila recorded so far this year. 

It was recorded at 3:30 pm at the PAGASA Weather Station in Diliman, Quezon City, according to the bureau’s latest weather bulletin.

The previous highest temperature in Metro Manila in 2016 was 36.4°C, measured on Thursday, April 14, said Benjie de Paz of PAGASA. 

The highest temperature ever recorded in Metro Manila was 38.5°C on May 14, 1987. Meanwhile, the hottest temperature ever recorded in the country was 42.2°C, in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, on May 11, 1969.

The weather bureau’s 5 pm bulletin on Saturday also said that a ridge of a high-pressure area (HPA) is extending over Luzon, while the easterlies are affecting Visayas and Mindanao.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms in the next 24 hours.

Light to moderate winds from the east to southeast will prevail over Luzon, and from the east over Visayas and Mindanao. Meanwhile, coastal waters will be slight to moderate throughout the archipelago.
