PAGASA: LPA still has slim chance of strengthening

MANILA, Philippines – The low pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao continues to have just a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression, state weather bureau PAGASA told Rappler at 6 pm, Saturday, June 25.

As of 4 pm, the LPA was at 715 kilometers (km) east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. It is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting the Visayas and Mindanao. 

The LPA will be locally named “Ambo” if it develops into a tropical depression.

Another LPA, which was spotted 160 km southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur on Saturday morning, has since dissipated.

PAGASA said light to moderate rains and thunderstorms are expected in the Visayas, Mindanao, and Mimaropa. Coastal waters in these areas will also be moderate to rough, while winds will be moderate to strong.

The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will have isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
