MANILA, Philippines – Three areas have been placed under tropical cyclone warning signal number 1 as Tropical Depression Carina maintained its strength on Friday afternoon, July 29. 

As of 4 pm Friday, state weather bureau PAGASA located the center of Carina at 135 kilometers east northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, with maximum winds of 45 km per hour (km/h) near the center.

It is now moving north northwest towards eastern Luzon at 11 km/h, with moderate to heavy rains within its 300-km diameter.

Tropical cyclone warning signal number 1 (30-60 km/h expected in 36 hours) is now raised over Catanduanes, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar. 

PAGASA warned these areas, as well as Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and the rest of Visayas against moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. 

“Fisherfolk are alerted against moderate to rough seas over the eastern seaboards of Luzon and Visayas,” the state weather bureau said.
