MANILA, Philippines – The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is expected to trigger rain in Southern Luzon and the Visayas on Tuesday, June 26.

The ITCZ is a belt near the equator where the trade winds of the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere meet, usually causing low pressure areas (LPAs) or thunderstorms. (READ: FAST FACTS: Tropical cyclones, rainfall advisories)

In a bulletin issued 4 pm on Monday, June 25, state weather bureau PAGASA warned Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol, Aurora, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon, as well as the Visayas, that there will be light to moderate rain. Floods are possible in low-lying areas.

The rest of the country will also have isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, which may trigger flash floods and landslides, too.

So far, there is no potential tropical cyclone inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

PAGASA had declared the start of the rainy season last June 8. – Rappler.com
