Rainy Wednesday in north Luzon due to Isang

MANILA, Philippines (11pm update) – Rain and gusty winds are in the forecast for many north Luzon provinces Wednesday, July 17, as tropical depression Isang closes in on the region.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA, Isang has maintained its intensity and is expected to make landfall over Isabela-Cagayan after midnight.

Isang was spotted 80 km east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora (16.7 ̊N, 123.0 ̊E) as of 11 pm Tuesday, carrying maximum winds of 55 km/h near the center as it moves northwest at a speed of 15 km/h.

Twelve provinces are under storm signal number 1, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its 11 pm weather advisory for Isang. They are Aurora, Quirino, Isabela, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands and the Batanes Group of Islands.

Isang will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing light to moderate rain and thunderstorms over Mimaropa, Calabarzon, Bicol, and Western Visayas.

The Ilocos region and the provinces of Aurora, Quirino, Isabela, Mountain Province, Kalinga, Apayao, Abra, Ifugao, Batanes, and Cagayan will experience rain and gusty winds, accompanied by moderate to rough seas, the bureau said in its 24-hour public weather forecast released late Tuesday, July 16.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for the rest of Luzon, Visayas, the Zamboanga peninsula, and northern Mindanao.

The rest of Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isoletd rain, the bureau said.
