MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The southwest monsoon will continue bringing rain to Luzon and Visayas Wednesday, August 21, as a stronger tropical storm Maring (international codename Trami) moves toward Taiwan.

Maring was spotted 500 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes (24.2ºN,125.9ºE) as of 4 am Wednesday, with maximum sustained winds of 105 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 130 km/h.

It slowed down a bit, moving towards the northwest at a speed of 15 km/h, heading towards Taiwan.

Maring is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Wednesday afternoon or early Thursday (August 22), the bureau said in its 24-hour forecast released early Wednesday.

Metro Manila and the surrounding regions should expect “gradual improvement” in weather by Thursday evening or Friday morning (August 23), PAGASA said.
