Monsoon rain in parts of Luzon, West Visayas Thursday

MANILA, Philippines – The southwest monsoon will continue affecting parts of the country on Thursday, August 22, but weather will continue to improve as the weekend approaches.

Luzon and Western Visayas will still the effects of the monsoon, even as tropical storm Trami (Philippine codename Maring) moves toward eastern China, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

On Thursday, monsoon rains are expected in the following ares:

• Metro Manila
• Ilocos 
• Central Luzon
• Benguet
• Batanes
• Babuyan Islands

Residents should be on the lookout for possible flash floods and landslides, the bureau said in its 24-hour public weather forecast.

Western Visayas and the rest of Luzon will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain, while the rest of the archipelago will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain, the bureau said.

Prevailing winds will come from the south to southwest.
