MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – An intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will be affecting the weather in Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, state weather bureau PAGASA said Saturday, September 7.

In its 5 pm update, PAGASA said the ITCZ will bring in cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms in these areas, including the Bicol Region.

As of 11 pm, the bureau said thunderstorms are affecting the following areas – as well as nearby areas – which may persist for the next 1-2 hours:

• Quezon
• Laguna
• Batangas
• Zamboanga Peninsula
• Basilan
• Davao del Sur
• North Cotabato
• Maguindanao
• Sarangani
• Surigao del Sur

“All are advised to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flashfloods. Keep monitoring for updates,” the advisory said.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers and thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. 

Coastal waters in extreme Northern Luzon will be moderate to occassionally rough, with moderate to occassionally strong winds blowing from the northeast.

Light to moderate winds from northeast to northwest will blow over the rest of Luzon with slight to moderate seas. – Rappler.com
