MANILA, Philippines – Extremely strong winds are expected to affect the eastern coasts of Visayas and Mindanao, the country’s official weather forecast warned Saturday, January 25.
Affected areas include Samar and Leyte provinces, Surigao, Davao Oriental, Dinagat Province and Siargao Island.
Waves as high as 3.4 to 4.5 meters are also expected in these areas.
“Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea, while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The strong to gale force winds are associated with the surge of Northeast Monsoon, PAGASA said.
The northeast monsoon will blow moderate to strong winds from the northeast towards all regions, making coastal waters all over the country moderate to rough.
Skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy all throughout the country, with isolated rains.
In its 5 pm update, the weather bureau said temperatures hit as low as 16.9ºC at 6:20 am, Saturday.
Most of the country will continue to experience relatively cold temperatures from 5 pm Saturday to 5 am Sunday.
