MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Tropical Depression Caloy maintained its strength as it moves closer to Surigao del Norte. Eleven areas in Visayas and Mindanao are under storm signal number one.
In its 11 pm update on Friday, March 21, state weather bureau PAGASA said the center of Caloy was at 160 km east of Surigao City. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center.
Caloy is forecast to move west northwest at 15 kph.
Storm signal number 1 was raised in 16 areas (winds of 30 to 60 kph is expected within the next 36 hours):
- Southern Leyte
- Bohol
- Siquijor
- Cebu
- Negros Provinces
- Guimaras
- Iloilo
- Antique
- Surigao del Sur
- Surigao del Norte including Siargao
- Dinagat
- Northern Agusan del Sur
- Agusan del Norte
- Bukidnon
- Misamis Oriental
- Camiguin

Storm signals in the northern part of Davao Oriental, northern part of Davao del Norte, and Compostela Valley were lowered.
Caloy is expected to be at 50 km south southeast of Cebu City by Saturday evening and at 25 km south of Cuyo Island by Sunday evening.
By Monday evening, it is expected to be at 200 km north northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
PAGASA estimated moderate to heavy rainfall of 5 to 15 mm per hour within the 300 km diameter of the tropical depression. Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal number one are warned against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Fishing boats and small seacraft were also advised not to venture into the seaboards of Northern Luzon, as well as the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon and Eastern Visayas due to the northeast monsoon.
