MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Typhoon Chedeng (Maysak) weakened into a tropical storm on Saturday afternoon, April 4, but continued to threaten at least 26 areas that the state weather bureau placed under storm warning signals.  

In its 5 pm bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Chedeng packs maximum sustained winds of 115 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 145 km/h. 

Six hours earlier, PAGASA said Chedeng had winds of 130 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 160 km/h.

Still, the state weather bureau placed 26 areas under storm warning signals as Chedeng is expected to make landfall on Sunday morning, April 5, over the coast of southern Isabela.
