MANILA, Philippines – Parts of Luzon should brace for flash floods and landslides on Wednedsay, July 8.

These may be triggered by moderate to heavy rains brought about by the Southwest Monsoon currently affecting Luzon, said the Philippine state weather bureau in its Tuesday evening bulletin.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said areas that would be affected are:

  • Ilocos region
  • Cordillera Administrative Region
  • Mimaropa
  • Bataan province
  • Zambales province

The monsoon is also expected to bring moderate to strong winds all over the country. This means ocean waters will be moderate to rough.

Metro Manila and the rest of Central Luzon should be ready for occasional rains on Wednesday. The rest of the country will have isolated thunderstorms and partly cloudy skies.

A typhoon is brewing on the edge of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Typhoon Chan-Hom strengthed, with winds of 130 kilometers/hour (km/h) and gusts of 160 km/h. It was spotted by PAGASA 1,495 kilometers east of Luzon at 4 pm. It will likely move west northwest at a speed of 20 km/h.

Chan-Hom is expected to enter the PAR on Tuesday evening at which time it will be given the local name, Falcon.
