Tropical Depression Fabian is the Philippines' sixth tropical cyclone for 2021 and the second for July

The low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility developed into a tropical depression at 11 am on Friday, July 16, and was given the local name Fabian.

Tropical Depression Fabian is the Philippines’ sixth tropical cyclone for 2021 and the second for July. (READ: LIST: PAGASA’s names for tropical cyclones in 2021)

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Fabian is located east of Northern Luzon. Before dawn on Friday, as an LPA, it was 1,240 kilometers away from land.

PAGASA earlier said it does not expect Fabian to make landfall – similar to the tropical cyclone before it, Tropical Depression Emong.

But it could enhance the southwest monsoon or hanging habagat, which would continue to bring rain to parts of the Philippines.

PAGASA is expected to issue its first bulletin on Fabian at 5 pm on Friday. (READ: FAST FACTS: Tropical cyclones, rainfall advisories) – Rappler.com
