FALSE: GMA Network 'dismisses' Jessica Soho

Claim: Award-winning broadcast journalist Jessica Soho was "abruptly dismissed" by GMA network.

In a public post dated May 8, Facebook page Android ROMs posted a link that contains the purported headline, “Network abruptly dismisses Presenter.” The link also used an image of Soho as its thumbnail.

Below is the screenshot of the preview link:

Based on Facebook's Page Transparency feature, Android ROMs was created in January 2019. It has since been followed by 31 users. Its post about Soho, which gained 501 reactions and 150 comments, was sponsored.

Rating: FALSE

The facts: GMA Network has disputed the claim and said that Soho remains with them. She hosts GMA-7 news magazine show, Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, and two programs on GMA News TV: State of the Nation with Jessica Soho and Brigada.

According to a GMA News article, Soho renewed her exclusive contract with them in March 2019.

The official Facebook page of GMA News issued a statement on May 8 denying the false claim.

The preview link that contained the claim was manipulated. The article from the blog veggiesforthevegan.com was originally titled, "Only French Fry Lovers."

The article does not contain any details about the reporter's supposed dismissal from the network. Soho was only mentioned in the first part of the blog for her TV shows and her supposed "love [for] French fries."

In 2017, Facebook removed the edit link preview function as part of its "effort to stop the spread of misinformation and false news." – Glenda Marie Castro/Rappler.com
