FALSE: Photo of housing project during Duterte administration

Claim:

Facebook page One For Duterte posted a photo of two-story townhouses and claimed it was a housing project during the Rodrigo Duterte administration, also known as “panahon ng bastos” (indecent times).

The post compared it with an image of shabby shelters, which it tagged as “panahon ng disente” (decent times).

Several readers sent the post to Rappler for verification. The photo had over 8,800 shares, 1,100 comments, and 1,100 reactions as of writing. Claim Check, Facebook’s monitoring tool, flagged at least two other posts that contained the same photo for fact checkers to verify.

The facts:

The “panahon ng bastos” photo is not of a housing project of the Duterte government but of a private subdivision in Lapu Lapu City, Cebu.

A reverse image search showed that the photo posted by the Facebook page was a development plan of a subdivision called Amberley Homes Mactan. A real estate website used the same photo here.

An animated version of the subdivision’s development plan can also be seen in at least two videos uploaded in February and March 2019 by real estate-related YouTube channels.

This is not the first time false photos were used to compare the performance of the Duterte government to the Benigno Aquino III administration, which was referred to as “panahon ng disente.” In July, Rappler debunked posts that wrongly compared Boracay photos using the “disente vs. bastos” (decent vs. indecent) template. – Pauline Macaraeg/Rappler.com
