Complete details:

On December 24, Facebook page The Filipino Insider posted a photo falsely claiming that it showed Vice President Leni Robredo handing out money to the bereaved family of Sonya and Frank Gregorio.

The mother and son were shot dead by Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca on December 20. (READ: Timeline of Tarlac shooting: What we know so far)

Tanga nalang at bobo pag hindi ka [pa] naniwalang pakitang tao lang itong si Leni!!!” the post read. (You’re stupid if you still don’t believe that Leni is just a show-off.)

Facebook user Allan Quimque Po also posted the photo with the caption, “Diyos mio [VP] Leni lugaw, kailangan ba [talaga] may camera? Kailangan ba ipakita kung magkano ang laman ng sobre? Ibang klase ka [talaga], fake na fake ang ang iyong [pakikiramay,]” Po’s caption read.

(Good lord, VP Leni lugaw, is there really a need for a camera? Do you really need to show how much the envelope contains? You’re something else, your sympathy is so fake.)

This claim was sent to the Fact-checking in the Philippines Facebook group and was also emailed by multiple readers for verification. As of writing, the two posts gained 1,261 reactions, 661 comments, and 622 shares overall.

The claim is false.

Reverse image search showed that the photo was tweeted on December 22 by the Philippine Information Agency Regional Office III, with the caption, “Nagpahayag ng pakikiramay ang DSWD sa pamilya Gregorio. Bumisita ang mga kinatawan nito na sina DSWD USec. Aimee Torrefranca-Neri at DSWD Regional Director Marites Maristela.

(The DSWD gave condolonces to the Gregorio family. Its representatives, DSWD Undersecretary Aimee Torrefranca-Neri and DSWD Regional Director Marites Maristela, visited them.)

Sila rin ang personal na nag-abot ng tulong pinansyal sa ilalim ng Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation,” read a tweet in the same thread. (They also personally gave financial aid under Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation.)

Robredo also addressed the claim in a Facebook post, attaching a screenshot of Po’s post and saying, “This is definitely not me… We definitely gave help to the family of the slain mother and son but we never posted about it. Please help us report this fake news peddler.”

Po also has a past record of posting false information.

Rappler debunked other claims following the controversial shooting, including one that falsely said Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo called Sonya and Frank Gregorio disrespectful. Another false claim said that the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna kicked out a criminology student for writing a post in support of Nuezca. – Loreben Tuquero/Rappler.com
