IN NUMBERS: Cagayan Valley a year after Super Typhoon Lawin
One year after the typhoon, the main question is how far has the government performed for the rehabilitation and recovery of the victims

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – On Thursday, October 19, Super Typhoon Lawin (international name Haima) marked its first year since its landfall in Peñablanca town in Cagayan province.

The typhoon, the strongest typhoon to hit Cagayan in recent years, caused widespread damage in agriculture, infrastructure, government facilities, and private properties. (READ: Super Typhoon Lawin’s ground zero: A year after)

Only a few foreign countries gave donations, as the government in 2016 said the Philippines can stand on its own and does not need foreign assistance.

In the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council meeting on Tuesday, October 10, Governor Manuel Mamba said the National Disaster Coordinating Council “has not yet given any of the funds at this time, except for [constructing] temporary school buildings.”
