Ilang bansa na ang nagsimulang magbakuna ng kanilang mamamayan laban sa novel coronavirus nitong Disyembre at Enero. Inaasahang marami pa ang susunod.

Sa Pilipinas, diumano’y nabakunahan na ang ilang mataas na opisyal ng gobyerno at ilang close-in security ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte. Nauna pa sila sa napakaraming medical frontliners na araw-araw humaharap sa peligro ng virus sa mga ospital.

Sa episode na ito, tatalakayin nina Rappler health reporter Sofia Tomacruz at researcher-writer Jodesz Gavilan ang mga isyung pumapalibot sa vaccine procurement ng Duterte government.

Ayon kay Tomacruz:

When it comes to vaccine procurement, I think what the [issues] we’ve seen shows that, one, [the Duterte government officials] haven’t learned their lessons from the early days of the pandemic…that it is so important to be agile and to be able to make a decision quickly, and to be able to be flexible enough to change along the way.

Ngunit, ayon kay Tomacruz, masyadong marami pang kailangan ayusin ang gobyerno para masiguradong magiging maayos ang pamamahagi ng bakuna

I was quite surprised to hear that end of February was the target date because it’s already the middle of January…. It leaves you less than a month for people to really prepare. Kasi maraming preparation na kailangang gawin: storage, logistics, which includes transport from manufacturing firms to sites where it will be distributed. That’s a really complicated and complex process. Of course, there have been people working on that since last year…. There is a plan on paper, but whether or not that can actually be translated and implemented on the ground is entirely something else. And kung may dadating talaga na bakuna in February, I think, whether or not we’re ready, those will be given. It’s just a matter of how will that look like and it may not be as orderly as they have it in their head.
