PODCAST: Bibeth Orteza on projecting Poe as the ‘focus of national support’
In the face of legal challenges, TV ads tell voters Grace Poe is still in the race for the presidency

MANILA, Philippines – It’s an uncertain time for the camp of presidential candidate Grace Poe but writer Bibeth Orteza, one of her media consultants, says they continue to show Poe, through her political ads, enjoying a groundswell of support.

On the eve of the Supreme Court decision on Poe’s eligibility cases, Orteza talks to Rappler editor at large, Marites Vitug, on the shaping of the frontrunner’s messages and TV ads.

The overarching message, Orteza says, is that Poe and her running mate, Chiz Escudero, are the “real deal.” Tapat.

“They have a natural connection to people,” says Orteza, who has done TV ads for Escudero when he ran for the Senate in 2007, and for Poe in 2013, her first bid for the Senate. Currently, Orteza is part of a team that prepares ads for the Poe-Escudero tandem.

Orteza has a history with Poe because she worked with the candidate’s father, movie actor Fernando Poe Jr (FPJ), when he campaigned for the presidency in 2004. She gives Vitug a ringside view of memorable moments in the FPJ campaign and how the young Poe has imbibed the instincts of her late father.
