Duterte slams ‘ignorant’ Trillanes as ‘political ISIS’
President Rodrigo Duterte makes these remarks as Senator Antonio Trillanes IV tags Duterte's kin – his son Paolo and son-in-law Manases – in alleged smuggling

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte slammed opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV as a “political ISIS” for continuing to hurl allegations at his family despite lack of clear evidence.

For the senator’s supposed ignorance, Duterte likened Trillanes to the terrorist group Islamic State (ISIS) during a chance interview with reporters here around midnight on Sunday, September 3.

Duterte told the public to forgive Trillanes “because he does not know anything.”

“He does not have talent. He does not even know the difference between the Democratic Party and Political Party,” he said.

The President then lashed out at the senator by describing him as a “political ISIS.” For Duterte, this description applies to someone who persists in doing things because “they are dedicated to their ignorance.”

Si Trillanes ‘yung political ISIS eh. Walang alam, basta bira nang bira, akala niya tama siya,” Duterte said. (Trillanes is the political ISIS. He is ignorant, he just attacks and attacks, thinking he is right.)

The President made these remarks as Trillanes tries to pin down Duterte’s relatives – his son Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and his son-in-law Manases Carpio – for their alleged involvement in smuggling at the Bureau of Customs.

The Senate recently held its 6th hearing on the alleged smuggling of a P6.4-billion shabu shipment from China.

During the 6th Senate hearing on the issue, Trillanes traded barbs with administration ally Senator Richard Gordon, whom he claimed was being used to absolve the President and his family of allegations against them.

Trillanes wanted to invite Duterte’s son and son-in-law to a Senate inquiry, but Gordon rejected the motion, dismissing Trillanes’ allegations as “hearsay.”

But whether the Senate blue ribbon committee pushes through with its motion to invite both, Duterte advised his son and other invited resource persons to disregard Trillanes’ requests.

Duterte said those who will receive a subpoena for this Senate probe should say: “I will not submit. For what? You are on a fishing expedition.” – Rappler.com
