UPDATED May 9, 6pm: NCR tops regional standings

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – According to the Department of Education, below are the top 6 in overall regional standings at Palarong Pambansa 2012 as of Wednesday, May 9, 6 pm.

2nd Region 4-A
3rd Region 6
4th Region 7
5th Region 3
6th Region 12

The update on standings comes as the national games enters its 4th day.

NCR sits on top after nabbing the gold in each and every gymnastics event as of Tuesday, May 8. The Big City team also took home 12 out of 16 gold medals in Day 1 of swimming, highlighted by two broken records courtesy of Delia Cordero in the 200m secondary girls butterfly, and the NCR 4×50 secondary girls medley relay.

Region 4-A won the 4 other golds in swimming that slipped NCR’s hands helping boost them up in standings. CALABARZON also boasts two gold medals in arnis anyo event, topping the individual category of elementary boys and girls.

On the third spot is Region 6 or Western Visayas, which has dominated athletics so far, taking 10 of the 22 gold medals up for grabs. Dexter Galos, who ran barefoot, took home the first gold of the games with his dramatic 5000m finish. Region 6 also took home two arnis anyo event golds.

As of 10am, Region 12 or SOCCSKSARGEN was ranked 5th, while Region 3 or Central Luzon followed at 6th place. By 6 pm however, the two regions switched places.
