MANILA, Philippines – Cleveland Cavaliers star forward LeBron James is set for a return trip to the Philippines, Nike Philippines announced via its Twitter account Monday, August 10.
The 4-time NBA MVP first visited Manila for a one-day tour in 2013. He is reportedly set for a Wednesday, August 19 arrival and a much longer stay than his first trip. No official date has been released as of posting time. (IN PHOTOS: LeBron James rocks Manila)
The 30-year old James is set to participate in the ongoing Rise program, which trains Filipino youth from around the archipelago and gives them a shot at fulfilling their basketball dreams. (READ: Paul George puts on show, scrimmages with PH youth)
Paul George of the Indiana Pacers was also in Manila late last month for the Rise campaign, where he trained and scrimmaged with the aspiring ballers and visited a tenement in Taguig.
The program, where the youth selection trains for 6 weeks under former national team head coach Chot Reyes, is already on episode two of its weekly sports documentary program that chronicles the participants’ journey.
James led Cleveland to the NBA Finals this past June, where they surpassed expectations despite enduring key injuries, and pushed eventual champion Golden State Warriors to 6 games. – Rappler.com
