MANILA, Philippines – It appears that one women’s basketball team ranked 58th in the world by FIBA is a little better than the other one.
The Philippine women’s basketball team, which shares a FIBA ranking spot with Hong Kong, showed they were the better team by winning 75-62 in Group B of the 2015 FIBA Asia Women’s Championship in Wuhan, China on Tuesday, September 1.
Perlas Pilipinas, as the team is known, was led by Allana Lim, a former star at Far Eastern University. Lim was unstoppable, scoring 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting, to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Fellow Tamaraw Camille Sambile wasn’t far behind, turning in 19 points on 9-of-16 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds.
As a team the Philippines continued to make the 3-pointer a weapon by missing all 12 of their attempts, but they shot relatively better from 2-point range
The win is the Philippines third, as the team defeated North Korea, Sri Lanka after losing its opening match to Malaysia.
The Philippines, now 3-1, will take on Kazakhstan in its final match of the group stage on Wednesday, September 2 at 9 am. A win against Kazakhstan will improve its 3-2 finish at FIBA Asia in 2013.
