CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras are on the right track in defending their men’s and women’s titles in the seniors division of the CESAFI volleyball competition as they draw first blood in Saturday’s start of the Best of 3 Series at the University of San Carlos (USC) gym.
The Lady Cobras made mincemeat of the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) Lady Jaguars in straight sets, 25-23, 25-14, 25-18, to take Game 1.
Their male counterpart, the Spiking Cobras, had to go through a deciding fifth set before lording it over the USC Warriors, 27-25, 19-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-19, to lead the series 1-0.
The Lady Cobras are aiming for their third straight title while the Spiking Cobras are vying for back-to-back title wins.
Earlier, the USC Lady Warriors clinched third place after a straight set demolition of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 25-10, 25-18, 25-20.
