MANILA, Philippines – Former URCC heavyweight champion Igor Subora tasted another loss inside the ONE Championship cage as he yielded to Alain Ngalani on the undercard of the “Pride of Lions” event on Friday, November 13, at the 12,000-capacity Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

Ngalani, a 40-year-old muscular Cameroonian kickboxer who is now based in Hong Kong, had Subora in pain with 3 solid kicks to the body that pushed back the Ukrainian stalwart to the fence.

Subora tried to exchange heavy leathers with his opponent, but he was caught with Ngalani’s huge right cross that dropped him to the canvas.

Ngalani was able to secure a mount and then overwhelmed Subora with a flurry of punches to compel referee Olivier Coste to wave it off at 1:09 of the first round.

With the impressive victory over Subora, Ngalani (2-2, 1 NC) returns to the winner’s column after being submitted by Paul Cheng with punches in December 2013, and then suffering a first-stoppage loss to Chi Lewis Parry in their July 2014 rematch.

Subora experienced his second straight setback under the ONE banner and downgrades his professional standing to a 5-3 record.

Subora, who started his mixed martial arts career in the Philippines and rose to popularity in Universal Reality Combat Championship, last won a bout in November 2013 when he defended the URCC heavyweight title by knocking out Marcus Valda in 27 seconds.

Meanwhile, highly-touted prospect Angela Lee (3-0) spoiled the promotional debut of Natalie Gonzales Hills (2-3) as she submitted the Filipino-Australian combatant with a twister hold in a strawweight contest.

Lee, a 19-year-old Singaporean who grew up in Waipahu, Hawaii, was dragged to the mat by Hills after a rowdy stand-up trade that saw the Fil-Aussie newcomer to land knees to the midsection and a spinning heel kick.

Despite being at the bottom, Lee managed to reverse the position and then clobbered punches from top.

As Lee was snaring a rear-naked choke while on the back of Hills, her foe attempted to shrug it off by facing upwards.

However, Lee positioned herself sideways to lock the rare twister submission and force Hills to tap at the 2:24 mark of round one. – Rappler.com
