MANILA, Philippines – Guard Kyrie Irving hit the biggest shot of the season, a clutch go-ahead 3-pointer for the dagger that effectively ended a decades-long title drought for the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday, June 19 (Monday, June 20 in Manila).
Guarded by back-to-back league MVP Stephen Curry, Irving pulled up from beyond the arc inside the final minute to break the 89-all deadlock and put the Cavs on top for good against the Golden State Warriors.
Irving’s trey ended a long scoreless spell midway in the fourth quarter as LeBron James, who was named Finals MVP, finished off the 93-89 win with a free throw.
Irving finished the game with 26 points, 6 rebounds and an assist in 43 minutes of play as Cleveland won its first NBA championship and ended major sports title drought for the city dating back to 1964. – Rappler.com
