The Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters remain undefeated as they, once again, look to dominate the PBA All-Filipino Conference

MANILA, Philippines – The PBA treated its fans to 8 games featuring double headers in each playing date – the most so far in the young 2013 season.

We’ve been keeping track of the games so if you want to look back we have the wrap for PBA Week 1 and Week 2 for you too.

THE RUNDOWN

Alaska vs Barako Bull

Three Aces score at least 20 points to notch their first win in the PBA 2013 All-Filipino Cup. JVee Casio, Cyrus Baguio, and Mac Baracael combined for 68 points. Tony Dela Cruz also added 10 for Alaska.

Enrico Villanueva led Barako Bull in a performance reminiscent of his earlier playing days with Red Bull. He tallied 22 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal.

Best Player: JVee Casio (24 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts, 1 stl)
The young guard from La Salle found his shooting touch scoring 12 of his 24 points in the 3rd period to lead the Aces.

Petron vs SanMig Coffee

James Yap and the rest of the Coffee Mixers spoil JuneMar Fajardo’s breakout game in a 90-84 win against fellow powerhouse Petron.

PBA 2012 top overall draft pick had a breakout performance scoring 16 points and hauling down 13 rebounds including a highlight play throwing down a 2-handed follow-up jam over 6’9″ Yancy De Ocampo. Unfortunately, the ‘Kraken” suffered a scrotum injury that have him sidelined for at least a month.

Best Player: Peter June Simon (17 its, 4 rebs, 1 ast, 1 stl)
Simon knocked down a 3-pointer late in the game to help secure the win for the Coffee mixers.

Global Port vs Meralco

Global Port comes from behind to beat the Meralco Bolts and score their first ever win in the PBA, 105-104.

Sol Mercado, Ronjay Buenafe, and rookie Cliff Hodge combined for 75 points, but it was not enough to keep Global Port at bay. Hodge also hauled down 15 rebounds.

It was also a double black-eye for the Meralco Bolts as their locker room was ransacked by thieves. InterAKTV reports PBA Commissioner Chito Salud has asked for tighter security in the MOA Arena.

Best Player: Willie Miller (33 pts 6/7 3-PT FG, 11 rebs, 3 asts, 1 stl)
The 2-time MVP has been on a scoring tear in the All-Filipino Cup and he carried the scoring cudgels once again to give the Batang Pier its first win.

Talk ‘N Text vs Air21

The Tropang Texters remain unbeaten with Coach Norman Black at the helm. Ranidel De Ocampo led the scoring for Talk ‘N Text with 19 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

New acquisitions KG Canaleta and John Wilson continue to lead the offense for Air 21 scoring 21 and 18 points respectively.

Best Player: Jimmy Alapag (16 points, 4/6 3-PT FG, 3 rebs, 4 asts)
The 2011 PBA MVP knocked down 4 3-pointers in the game making him the latest addition to PBA’s 1,000 3-PT field goals made club.

Alaska vs Petron

‘The Beast’ unleashed. Calvin Abueva of the San Sebastian Stags announced his entry into Asia’s first play-for-pay league via a double-double, 12 points and 16 rebounds, to help Alaska to their 2nd straight win.

Alex Cabagnot and Jay Washington each had a chance to win it for Petron but both missed on their 3-point attempts late in the game.

Best Player: Dondon Hontiveros (17 pts, 4/7 3-PT FG, 7 rebs, 1 stl)
The ‘Cebunao Hotshot’ stayed true to his monicker waxing hot in the 4th period knocking down 3 triples to help Alaska get their 2nd win.

Barako Bull vs Ginebra

The Barako Bull shut down Ginebra to get their 2nd victory in the All-Filipino Cup, 92-82. The Barako defense didn’t give away easy shots and forced several turnovers to secure the win.

Ginebra made a strong rally in the 3rd quarter but could not buy a basket in the 4th. Caguioa led his team in scoring with 21 points.

Best Player: Sean Anthony (21 pts, 3/4 3-PT FG, 2 rebs, 3 asts)
The Fil-Am forward has been more offensive-minded in his new team and it has, so far, yielded to best player honors.

Rain or Shine vs Global Port

Rain or Shine climbs the standings with a 94-83 victory over Global Port Batang Pier. Leading scorer Jeff Chan struggled with his shooting but forward Jervy Cruz picked up the scoring slack.

Global Port’s leading scorer Willier Miller also struggled finishing with only 10 points – his lowest in the tournament so far.

Best Player: Jervy Cruz (22 pts, 16 rebs, 1 ast, 1 blk)
The forward from the University of Sto. Tomas scores a career-high 22 points to lead his team to victory and a solo spot at 2nd in the team standings.

Talk’ N Text vs SanMig Coffee

Talk ‘N Text is looking dominant at the All-Filipino Cup once more as they remain unbeaten following an 85-74 victory over SanMig Coffee.

The Coffee Mixers made a key run in the 3rd quarter and even held the lead early in the fourth but timely hits from the Texters prevented them from getting the win.

Best Player: Larry Fonacier (26 pts, 4/6 3-PT FG, 7 rebs, 1 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk)
Shooting guard Larry Fonacier led all scorers with 26 points knocking down 4 three-pointers to help the Texters get the win.

RAPPLER’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Calvin Abueva vs Petron (12 pts, 16 rebs, 1 ast, 1 stl)
The Beast more than held his own against the big men of Petron in a very impressive PBA debut. Also a 16-rebound output from a 6’2″ cager in his first PBA game is pretty darn good.

Runner ups:

  • JuneMar Fajardo vs SanMig Coffee (16 pts, 13 rebs, 3 stls, 1 blk)
  • Jason Deutchman vs Meralco (20 pts, 4/5 3-PT FG, 9 rebs, 2 stls, 2 blks); vs Rain or Shine (18 pts, 10 rebs, 1 stl)

WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR?

Petron Blaze Boosters (2-2)
Despite having one of the, if not the most talented roster, the Boosters have failed to live up to their potential. Team chemistry continues to hound the ball club with one of its team captains Arwind Santos telling InterAKTV that the team lacks heart.

Santos intends to take up the issue with Petron Management. How will the team turn itself around? That’s something worth looking out for.

Global Port Rookies
Jason Deutchman and AJ Mandani are making a good account of themselves. In Global Port’s 2 games this week, both played key roles. Mandani is filling up the stat sheet his scoring, rebounding and passing while Deutchman has shown he is a big man with a feathery touch from downtown.
