MANILA, Philippines – The San Miguel Beermen advanced to the semifinals of the PBA Governors’ Cup after eliminating the NLEX Road Warriors in the quarterfinal round, 114-110, on Friday, September 23, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
San Miguel, which surrendered a 15-point halftime lead, was led by the 39 points and 11 rebounds of returning import Elijah Millsap, while June Mar Fajardo added 17 points and 13 boards.
NLEX put up a valiant fight, but saw its season come to an end after Garvo Lanete missed a 3-pointer which failed to cut a 4-point Beermen lead as time expired.
The rookie spotted 13 points off the bench for NLEX, which was led by the 45-point, 17-rebound effort of import Henry Walker.
Marcio Lassiter, who had a big 3-ball to put San Miguel up 110-102 with 1:10 to go, finished with 14 points. The Beermen are set to face the winner of the Ginebra-Alaska series in the next round.
