MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The UST Growling Tigers lost their first game in the second round of UAAP Season 79 and 4 straight overall following a 71-61 defeat to the UE Red Warriors on Saturday, October 8, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
The Growling Tigers, who had 23 turnovers in the first half alone, struggled on the offensive end once again and could not recover after going behind by 10, 23-13, to the Red Warriors after the first quarter of play.
The loss dropped UST to a 2-6 record, the same as UE which has now won two straight games.
Mark Olayon led the Red Warriors as their lone double-digit scorer with 14 points plus 7 boards, while Alvin Pasaol and Edgar Charcos each scored 9 points in the winning effort. UE forced UST to a total of 32 turnovers which led to 26 points.
The Growling Tigers were led by the 21 points and 4 rebounds of Louie Vigil, who also threw away 10 turnovers. William Afoakwah accounted for 10 points, 21 boards, and 3 blocks. – Rappler.com
