Paul Lee rises for Hotshots to win Player of the Week

MANILA, Philippines – Paul Lee finally got himself going to lead the Star Hotshots to back-to-back lopsided wins last week, earning him the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honor.

The 6-foot Lee shook off his shooting woes last Wednesday, December 7, when he knocked down 4 triples en route to finishing with 20 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds as Star clobbered NLEX, 99-75.

It was a fitting first win for Star as Lee also defeated his former Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao, who now handles NLEX.

Three days later, Lee fired 18 points, issued 4 assists, and added 3 boards as he helped trigger Star’s vicious first half offensive on the way to a 44-point demolition of Phoenix, 123-79.

Lee had averages of 19 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4 assists to capture the Player of the Week citation, besting his freshman Star teammate Jio Jalalon and teammates guard Mark Barroca and wingman Allen Maliksi.

Also in the running for the week’s citation were Meralco’s rookie Ed Daquioag and sophomore Chris Newsome, Alaska forward Calvin Abueva, San Miguel’s Arwind Santos and June Mar Fajardo, Rain or Shine’s James Yap and Raymund Almazan, as well as GlobalPort’s Terrence Romeo.

Lee gaining momentum comes at just the right time as he gears up to face his former team Rain or Shine for the first time this season on Sunday, December 18. – Rappler.com
