Acuña continues her strong performance from the 2017 SEASA Championships to place 3rd in the Women's 50m Rifle Prone Individual event with 612.9 points

MANILA, Philippines – Amparo Teresa Acuña nabbed the first SEA Games 2017 medal for the Philippine National Shooting team on Thursday, August 24, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Acuña placed third in the women’s 50m Rifle Prone individual event with 612.9 points. Thailand’s Ratchadaporn Plengsaengthong (619.8 pts) and Supamas Wankaew (617.7 pts) claimed gold and silver medals respectively.

The Philippine rifle specialist previously placed 8th in the 50m Rifle Prone finals of the 2015 Singapore SEA Games, but she was able to achieve a higher score of 615.3.

The Asian Youth Games veteran, who is currently studying in Miriam College, entered the SEA Games with podium finishes in the recent 2017 Southeast Asia Shooting Association Championships held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In that event, Acuña won the gold medal in the 50m Rifle Prone and a bronze medal in the Rifle 3 Positions events. – Rappler.com
