KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (UPDATED) – The Philippines put up a gallant stand against powerhouse Thailand, and it was enough to give them the lead several times but not for a set win.
Thailand ousted the Philippine in straight sets, 25-21, 25-17, 25-17, to oust them in the semifinals of women’s volleyball during the 2017 Southeast Asian Games on Saturday, August 26 here at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here.
The Filipinos kept in step with the Thais from start to finish, banking on attacks from Jaja Santiago and Alyssa Valdez, as well as the usual reliable defense of Dawn Macandili.
But both Santiago and Valdez were soon checked by the Thais and the opponents set the tone well all throughout.
Santiago topscored with 15 points while Valdez had 10. Joveyn Gonzaga and Aby Maraño added 7 and 6 points, respectively.
The Philippine women’s volleyball team so far has a 1-2 record in the SEA Games. They will battle for the bronze on Sunday at 10 am. – Rappler.com
