PSC resolution calls for end to corruption in sports
PSC demands POC and NSAs to settle millions of pesos of unliquidated accounts

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez has submitted a resolution on Tuesday, September 26, supporting PSC Commissioner Ramon S. Fernandez’s campaign against corruption in sports.

In Fernandez’s Facebook post, the document called out both the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the National Sports Associations (NSA) in the Philippines, as they have been told time and again to settle their respective accounts with the PSC over the years.

More than a decade after the Philippines’ successfully hosted the 2005 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Bacolod, the Commission on Audit (CoA) ordered the Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (PhilSoc) to return P27 million which were allegedly not liquidated as some of the receipts were disallowed by CoA.

In 2005, the PhilSoc – which was headed by current POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco – was given a P167 million budget for the SEAG hosting.

On the other hand, the resolution also demanded that NSAs “settle or liquidate their unliquidated accounts due to the PSC and/or unspent financial assistance or overdue payments made the PSC board on or before December 1, 2017.”

In a Facebook comment by Ramirez, it showed that the PSC has also reached out to the Fraud Audit Office of the CoA on September 26, 2017 to conduct an audit of the PSC’s transactions from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2016.
