MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws go back to their winning ways with their domination over the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, 96-70, on Sunday, October 15 at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
The third quarter saw FEU garner the biggest lead of the 36 points that was punctuated by Axel Iñigo’s bucket. The Tamaraws maintained a huge lead of at least 30 points heading into the dying minutes of the final frame but Marvin Lee went on a solo 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 26 points.
The Tamaraws are coming off a two-game losing streak from the Adamson Soaring Falcons and the De La Salle University Green Archers. The Morayta-based squad quickly capitalized on the Steve Akomo-less UST rotation to get back into the winning momentum once again.
The Tamaraws got off to a 7-0 start in the game and quickly put up a double digit lead within the first quarter.
The Tamaraws were ruthless in the second period as they limited the Growling Tigers to only two points by the 5:11 mark of the quarter. FEU also drained 5 triples in the second quarter alone that saw the lead balloon to 30 points (53-23) after Kenneth Tuffin’s last triple.
Tuffin led the Tamaraws with 14 points as he shot 3/4 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed 3 rebounds and made 1 assist.
For the Growling Tigers, Wendell de Guzman recorded a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds while making 6 assists.
